For this week's blogpost (and 5 more to follow) I colored a inked Mouse Guard character portrait in my normal fashion in Photoshop. I recorded the process and speed up the result x8. Here is the video:
Here is a better look at the original inks and the finished piece:

my co-worker and I greatly enjoy watching these color process videos. We had a question though, when you are applying the shading to the face it appears that you apply the shading in one area, pick up the brush and apply it to a second area, and then on to a third and so on. It then looks like you use the brush fade tool and it fades all of the strokes even though you picked up the cursor. How are you able to pick up and move and get the effect to apply to all of the strokes instead of just the most recent stroke? Is there something else going on that we are missing?
ReplyDeleteJacob,
ReplyDeleteI think what may look like multiple passes before fading the results is actually a single click. The brush I use tends to do the 'work' when it's being held in an area and moved circularly....if I then swing my arm up to hit another spot while still holding the click, it may leave a few small traces of effect in the path, but doesn't do much until I slow down and move over a small space in concentration.
